The Facts of Life
Didn't do much this weekend and it was wonderful. Actually I did get my Georgia license but that only took me 4 hours so the rest of my weekend was pretty relaxing.
Usually I'd be pretty bummed that I didn't do anything, but work has got me so wound up that this was really a welcomed change. Hopefully this will be the last time I'll have to talk about my job, but this isn't being realistic, since so much of my day is spent there.
The Bad - I work to damn much:
I'm supposed to be working 45 hours a week, but in actuality I've been averaging 50-60 hours. Most people have lunch at work, but how many have both lunch and dinner in their cubicles? I don't want to leave before the people that are already there when I get in, but these people just don't ever go home. Why do they hate their families, so?
And when I do leave, I have to endure either the disappointed look on someone's face as I tell them I won't be able to get to this or that until tomorrow, or this feeling that they're all watching me, thinking this guy just isn't committed to the company. And you know what, they're right. They don't pay me enough for this shit.
Sometimes I get home, talk to Melinda for a hour or so and go straight to bed (well to couch if you want to get technical - I still don't have a bed yet.) What sort of life is this? I'm not sure how much longer I can keep up this grueling pace.
The Good - I sort of like the work:
I've been doing some interesting stuff including writing a Linux interface in LabVIEW and writing some embedded software for a network test tool. This week I start playing around with HDTV signals for the European standards and designing a test system for said signals. I just wish I could do this stuff in a real language like C/C++, Java, or Visual Basic. LabVIEW is nice and all, but its just a bit to simple if you know what I mean.
Anyway its now midnight so I'm gonna hit the hay.

Don't turn into one of those assholes who lives at work! You're right, they do hate their families. Or, they define their own personal success by how much time they spend at work. I say if you let your job take over your life you are a FAILURE!
Oh yeah, and sorry about ditching the plans at the last minute this weekend, but it seriously would have been lame. Next time I'll head over there and we can look for shit to do in ATL.
Sounds good to me...this weekend is NG for both of us, I think. So maybe weekend after next?

Actually I'm really tired after my 13 hour work day. I'm going to ditch my best friend down here ([adult swim]) and go to bed early.
hah, when I lived in the hotel for the first few months here, [adult swim] was my best friend for a while too.

YAY!!! I can read what you are all saying again... only took 30 mins on the phone with Comcast to get my internet up and running again. Woo-hoo!!! Damn internet, damn computers and their damn numbers, IP addresses, pingings, settings, default crap, automatic crap, and otherwise crap. You may want to look at what I did when you come here sweetie, just to see how much I screwed everything up.
PS- Working too many hours = dumb... who do you think you are sweetie... ME???? HA!!! Well, my three 12 hour workdays plus my two 6 hour workdays really don't compare. But I get yelled at by crazy people and retarded people alot (nice PC terms coming from a shrink)... that should count for something.

Actually I have this work thing sort of figured out. See I just set up a VPN connection to my home computer. Now I can use my home computer for work purposes. Now I can go home early but still put in all that time at work.
That's a compromise right?

You seem to be mixed up, you are supposed to VPN to your home computer so you can not do work. Silly monkey.
